The aim of the SFL Program at the University of Costa Rica is to provide non-Spanish speaking students with such a degree of competence in Spanish as to allow them to fulfill, quickly and efficiently, their communication needs in both speaking and writing.

The SFL Program is taught by a team of native-speaking university professors with degrees in either Spanish Philology or Linguistics. It utilizes suitable didactic materials and technological facilities.

An essential part of the SFL Program is to teach the relevant aspects of the Hispanic culture, in general, and the Costa Rican culture, in particular, so that the student can learn how to speak Spanish by close interaction with the country's historical and social backgrounds.
